Emerson’s annual LRY Hunger Project raised about $1200 in support of the programs of Heifer International, a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance & sustainability. The members of LRY sold home made baked goods and convinced Emersonians to support responsible individuals and communities in the developing world by providing them with domesticated animals and tree seedlings. Our Winter Solstice Service was a huge success, and it was a memorable experience for approximately 100 people who attended. It was a perfect way to reflect on the changing of the seasons, and we thank all who participated for providing this experience for our members and many visitors: Musicians, Readers, Candle Persons, Hosts, and Ushers. |

Emerson Scholarships: What a success! Christine’s family attended her graduation ceremony on May 12. Both Nancy Gonzales and Christine Nash have worked for the entire time they have been in school. Their families are not able to help them. Both young women now plan to go on to nursing school and become RNs. They are the first in their families to go to college. To all of you who contributed, they are very grateful and excited. To all of you who would still like to contribute the scholarship fund would also be very grateful. Contact: Carol Groppe. |
