Bookstore Used and new books of interest to UUs. Open Sundays before and after services. Contact: Kris Taylor Building and Grounds Oversees maintenance of the Church building and grounds, including parking areas, gardens, woods, lighting and heating in coordination with the custodian. Contact: Tom McDuffie Aesthetics Bulding Use Committee Works to preserve the beauty, character and integrity of the Emerson buildings and to encourage meaningful use of the facilities.
B&G Landscape Establishes a long term plan for landscaping of the church and finding the resources necessary to carry the plan out. Contact: Mary Pedersen Caring Provides receptions after memorial services. Contact: Gwen Essinger Coordinating Council Composed of all committee chairpersons, this council elevates our church life experience by providing and coordinating Emerson programs. Together with the Board, develops and maintains church-wide policies and procedures. Contact: Brad Gammell Communications Committee( formerly PR) Assists the church and its committees to inform the internal and external communities about our activities and successes. Includes support for our newsletter, listserv, web site, and press releases to area newspapers. Meets 3rd Sundays each month, barring holiday conflicts. Contact: Pat Grealy Community Life Throughout the year the Community Life Council organizes many opportunities for intergenerational fun and fellowship. Contact: Hooker Wood Denominational Affairs Insures that the congregation and its officers receive timely information about the affairs of the UUA, both nationally and regionally. Contact: Janet Meininger Finance Makes recommendations to the Board and congregation concerning generation, custody, and management of funds. Actively monitors income and expenses to maintain sound financial condition. Contact: Roger Mills Growth Planning Develops a multi-year growth plan challenging us to be more outward looking, dedicated to spreading the UU vision of hope and humanity, and to grow in both prominence and size. Membership Welcoming Coordinates programming for newcomers and visitors and integrates new members into our church community. Meets 2nd Wednesdays each month, barring holiday conflicts. Contact: Karen Tidholm
Ministry Supports the minister and is a conduit for feedback between the minister and the congregation. Contact: Linda Condit
Music/Choir Organizes and provides music for Sunday services, as well as special music events. Contact: Stephen Lipp Nominations Responsible for recommending a slate of committee members for election at the Annual Meeting and helps to fill committee vacancies during the year. Contact: Jill Rose Partner Church Periodically offers programs or speakers--on occasion from Transylvania. Responsible for maintaining our relationship with St. Nicholas Church. Religious Education Oversees and coordinates the religious education program for the children/youth of the church. Contact: Cristi Walters Social Action Council Supports projects of their choice and keeps the congregation informed. They speak for the committee rather than the congregation, unless a congregational vote is taken. Contact: Barbara Adams Stewardship Responsible for keeping and dispensing information about the Church budget and running the canvass (coordination of member pledges) each year. Contact: Billye Smith Ushering On Sunday mornings, gives out the orders of service (programs), take-up and count the offering, count attendance, and help visitors as needed. Contact: Chris Paschke UU Network The Houston Unitarian Universalist Network consists of members of the eight UU congregations in the Houston-metro area. We extend a warm welcome to all those interested in finding a Unitarian Universalist congregation in the Houston area or those wanting to know more about Unitarian Universalism. Contact: Barbara Hopkins Welcoming Congregation Serves as the liaison between the congregation and other area organizations committed to increasing acceptance of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders in our society. Assists the congregation in deepening its understanding of issues important to the GLBT community and provides opportunities for participation in GLBT community events.
