Taking a Leap of Faith: Shine Our Light
The fourth part of the cycle, Shine, is not only the culmination of the previous three steps, but the springboard for continuity of the cycle. This part of the cycle focuses on every member of the congregation.
Emerson can motivate not only new members, but current members as well, to shine the light of our faith. To achieve that, we need to be clear and explicit in our activities. Our members have many talents and wish to share them to make the world better. As a congregation, we can enable individuals and groups to be beacons of liberal faith: this is who we are and what we do.
Emerson provides opportunities through ministries such as social action, our pastoral care, and worship, to share our faith with one another and to show it to the larger community. The light of our chalice shines, reminding us of the covenant we share. Likewise, when we each shine that faith
as brightly as possible, we not only fulfill our covenant with one another and the world, but awaken in others an interest in joining us. And so the cycle begins again as we awaken others
What can you do to help shine our light?
The continuing message of Emerson AIMS is to be explicit in your faith. When taking part in an activity with other Emersonians outside the church, get everyone to wear matching T-shirts with the Emerson name on them. Use your statement of faith when the subject arises of where you go to church, or what you did last night while you were at a church committee or activity. You are an example of the good that Emerson does in the world, so let the world know about it.
