Our Ministers
Welcome! Whether you’re considering a visit to Emerson or just looking around our web site—hello. We extend you our warmest welcome. Emerson Church is a special place. We have never experienced a congregation as supporting and loving as this one is. And the scope of our outreach, activities, groups and programs is quite broad. Please do visit us soon—we look forward to getting to know you! We invite you to speak with either one of them after worship or call them at the church office (713) 782-8250. Director of Music
Having originally moved to Houston to attend graduate school, Bonnie Wellington found a home at Emerson. She first began serving the Emerson congregation in August 2006, and having been dedicated and grown up in The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton, New York, Emerson was a natural fit. Music has always been prolific in Bonnie's life, with both of her parents being musicians, the musical life of her childhood church being supported by high caliber professionals, beginning piano lessons at the age of four, and the strong music and leadership programs available to her in her adolescence. The choice to pursue higher education in music was a natural one.
Bonnie received her Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2004. The University was large, but the small music department on the other hand had a conservatory style instructional format and social life. Although Bonnie loved the intense musical immersion of the school, and the liberal atmosphere of Massachusetts, not being a fan of snow and cold weather, Bonnie looked south as she researched graduate schools. She moved to Houston to begin her studies at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston in 2005, graduating with her Master of Music in Voice Performance in 2007.
Throughout her studies, Bonnie performed in numerous recitals, operas and shows, taught private voice and movement and dance workshops, and sang as a staff singer at varying churches. Bonnie was referred to Emerson while finishing graduate school, and having served varying faith churches, Bonnie finds it a blessing to be able to do what she loves in a place that is so spiritually close to her heart. It is a gift to be able to build, share and express spiritually through the art that is music, and it is the mission of the Performing Arts Department at Emerson to provide guidance and support for everyone as they progress through their spiritually musical journey.
