Taking a Leap of Faith: Involve in Church Activities
The second step in the Emerson AIMS cycle is Involve.
Some people whose interest is awakened will make a visit to Emerson. Our task
then is to involve them in the Emerson community. People who have made several
connections with members of our congregation will be more likely to keep coming
and eventually to join.
Our Sunday morning greeters and ushers and the membership committee are important
here, but everyone can interact with visitors and newcomers to make them feel included.
The membership committee can follow up with visitors to increase their likelihood of returning.
Classes such as Building Your Own Theology provide paths into further involvement.
What can you do to involve prospective members?
The most important thing you can do is to be aware of visitors to our church and make them feel welcome. Be direct and explicit in welcoming them. Talk with them about what brought them to Emerson, or talk with them about why you like coming. This is an opportunity for you to use the faith statement that you created for the Awaken phase. Invite visitors to lunch or to other church activities, when you discover their interests.
