Frequently Asked Questions

Are all people welcome at Emerson? Absolutely. We are a warm and friendly congregation. We embrace people of all races, backgrounds, political orientation, walks of life, age, gender, and sexual preference. In our nurturing environment, each of us seeks personal growth and mutual understanding through worship, study and community activities. We welcome visitors to come find out more about our inclusive faith!

What are your beliefs? We’re a faith community with very diverse spiritual backgrounds. Unitarian Universalists affirm a diversity of religious ideas and support spiritual development guided by freedom, reason, and conscience. See ‘Our beliefs’ and ‘About Unitarian Universalism’ to learn more. And of course, we invite you to come visit us Sunday mornings and learn more firsthand.

Should I bring my children? Yes, bring your children! Emerson offers nationally-recognized religious education and youth programs.

Could my child stay with me during the service? Your child is always welcome to stay with you during the worship service if that seems more comfortable to you.

When should I arrive on Sunday? Be sure to always check the Next few Sundays page, since times may vary. *Especially important during Summer (June, July, August) as adjustments are more frequent.

What is the worship service like? If you have attended mainstream Protestant, Catholic, or Jewish services in America, our service will feel very familiar to you. We typically sing hymns, pray or meditate, hear music, readings and our sermon.

What should I wear to church? The great majority of us like to dress casually, although a few Emersonians prefer to “dress up for church.” You’ll find that Emerson welcomes diversity in all its aspects!

How do I get to Emerson? We are in the Galleria Mall area of Houston at 1900 Bering Drive, between Westheimer and San Felipe. Click here for driving directions and a map.

Where should I park? Visitor parking spaces are near the entrance to the church.
