Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church was chartered in 1960 to serve the growing western suburbs of Houston.

Proudly recognized as a Welcoming Congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Emerson Church is actively inviting to people of all races, ethnicities, ages, genders, and sexual preference.

We are known for:

  • Our nationally-recognized Religious Education Program.
  • A rich and varied Music Program including our Church Choir, Children’s Choir, our large Emerson Intergenerational Orchestra, the Rock Band Waldo!, fully-staged Broadway musicals, and numerous guest concerts and recitals.
  • Our Community Outreach Program features a large Houston Home Rehabilitation Team, creation and support of Houston’s Alternative Drug Court, and active support of SEARCH, Food For Seniors, Mount Vernon Food Pantry, St. Nicholas Unitarian Church in Transylvania, and numerous other community activities.
  • An Environmental Action Group that is large and very active.

Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church, one of approximately 1,000 Unitarian Universalist congregations in the United States and Canada, was named in honor of Ralph Waldo Emerson, the famous New England century essayist and Unitarian clergyman. Emerson Receives Diamond Ranking For Emerson Church’s contribution to our denomination’s, we have received a ‘diamond’ ranking, which means that we have paid our full and fair share for the size of our congregation, for ten consecutive years.
